A regular stack of practicing sheets is usually 100 sheets in a pack, is 35*145cm.

Ever since I started teaching calligraphy on line. The fun part and also not that interesting part is always "shopping." Gathering calligraphy stationary can be exciting and exhausting at the same time. Because there are always lots of choices from brush pen, to ink, and even lots of papers to choose from!

It is so tempting to buy all the tools and supplies all at once. But we'd probably get confused about if I should buy the practicing papers with different grids? I mean, papers can be expensive and heavy to ship. Also, there are papers with grids and printed checks. How would I know what to buy?

Here's some tips that I use in the class for

students and beginners who just begin to develop their "love" on calligraphy. I don't want to scare them away thought. :P

A stack of rice papers/ practicing sheets/ cotton papers is usually 100 sheets in a pack. You can buy a bulk, and fold the papers based on the fonts and writing style you are about to practice.

📝

"How do I know what kind of grids to fold?" "You can look at the structure firstly."

Standard style, aka 楷書, usually fits in square grids, therefore folding and dividing the papers evenly will help you write in same size and keep them tidy.

Engraved/篆書 and Official/隸書 styles on the other hand, tend to be a narrow structures, so we could fold in 3:4 ratio rectangles to give us a similar grids to write.

As for Cursive/草書 and Semi-cursive styles/行書, we'd like the grid to be in a thinner columns, so that the writing can be smoothly placed in each line without cutting the vibes.

*You can also follow the grids above for different styles of writings

Here is the video that shows how I fold the sheets.

Check this short video that may help!

FOLLOW THE STEP:
